Sam Bradford Is Your Heisman Trophy Winner

Prior to the Heisman trophy presentation yesterday I was thoroughly convinced that Tim Tebow would win it for a second time in as many years, and that the media wouldn't have it any other way. It's refreshing to see that simply was not the case. The Heisman voting broke down like this:

Player 1st 2nd 3rd Total
Sam Bradford, Oklahoma 300 315 196 1,726
Colt McCoy, Texas 266 288 230 1,640
Tim Tebow, Florida 309 207 234 1,575
Graham Harrell, Texas Tech 13 44 86 213
Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech 3 27 53 116

Amazingly, Tim Tebow finished up in 3rd place after media pundits claimed all week that he would likely be a shoe in for the trophy. Perhaps he didn't circumcise enough Pinoy boys earlier this year to win the favor of voters. What was the deal with Graham Harrell not even being invited to the presentation in New York anyways? Give me a break, the kid threw for 4,700 yards this season with 41 touchdowns and a passer rating of 163. The least the Heisman comittee could do was invite the kid, wine him, dine him and put on a class act. Instead, they do the complete opposite and prove that the Heisman Trophy is more political than the election of the President of the United States.

Sam Bradford: 4,464 Passing Yards; 48 Touchdowns; 186 passer rating.
Colt McCoy: 3,445 Passing Yards; 32 Touchdowns; 179 passer rating.
Tim Tebow: 2,515 Passing Yards; 28 Touchdowns; 176 passer rating.
***Graham Harrell: 4,747 Passing Yards; 41 Touchdowns; 163 passer rating.

After looking at the numbers it seems apparent to me that Graham Harrell was easily the 2nd best candidate to receive the award through statistical evidence. He plays in the exact same conference as Bradford and McCoy so the bias to leave him out is beyond me. I can't argue with the fact that Sam Bradford deserved the award though. He has put up amazing numbers every game this year, and he has turned the Oklahoma Sooner offense into one of the most efficient units College Football has ever seen. They've scored 60+ points in their last 5 games against opponents that were highly rated and that can play solid football. Unfortunately for Bradford, he has the daunting task of playing a Florida team in the Championship game that is equally athletic as his Sooners. Oh, and I don't want to forget to mention that the Sooners can't seem to win a BCS Bowl Game if their lives depended on it (losses to West Virginia and Boise St. should come to mind).

I've made a College Bowl Pick'Em Group on Yahoo! and the more people that join up the better.
