Blog Will Resume August 1st

Hey all,

Just wanted to inform you that College Football coverage will resume on August 1st after a six month lay-off! With NCAA Football 2010 coming out next week for the XBOX 360 and all major consoles it definitely ushers in college football...and it couldn't come at a better time. Anyways, prepare for my snarkiness to continue sooner rather than later.

Blog...Is...Losing...Steam!

Why haven't I posted in a long time? Well, Oregon Basketball is so god awful that each blog post would probably start with: "Well, Oregon is closing the gap on their margins of defeat each game...woo hoo for them!" O but wait, then they get $hit canned by Washington St. and I lose any interest in the basketball program that I once had. Am I gravy trainer? Perhaps. Anyways, when baseball starts and HOPEFULLY when Bryce Brown signs I'll have something to talk about then. Or I might just turn this blog into a message board for my random funny outings and stories.

Jairus To The Pros and Pete Carroll Is A Weiner

I'm not sure what to make of Jairus Byrd declaring for the NFL draft. Yeah, the guy is a solid corner, but I've never thought of him as a lock down guy that Oregon could rely on. I know it wasn't that long ago, but I seem to recall USC wideouts making he and Walter Thurmond III look downright silly. Maybe in Jairus' case the NFL evaluation comittee happened to miss that game or never received the film on it. It's probably because it was a game broadcast on the West Coast and nobody back East even saw it. I wouldn't be surprised. What about last year when Desean Jackson ran circles around him? Someone should inform Jairus that ALL widereceivers in the NFL are fast...just like Desean. The Ducks have viable replacements in Willie Glasper (senior) and Talmadge Jackson (junior) to help fill the void, but I think it would have been in his best interests to stay around for one more year. Who knows though...can't argue when a kid just wants to get paid.

As I'm sure you've probably already heard Mark Sanchez, starting QB for the USC Trojans, has declared for the NFL Draft and will come out a year only. Needless to say, Pete Carroll wasn't a happy camper to be finding that out. I wonder why? Maybe because the Trojan's schedule isn't that favorable next year. Away games at Oregon and Cal...there's also that little trip to Columbus for a rematch with the Buckeyes. Without Sanchez the Trojans probably are looking at either Aaron Corp or Mitch Mustain to lead the squad, but neither of them have seen considerable time at the position. I think Sanchez just wanted to go Pro so he didn't have to travel to the state of Oregon and lose again. He is 0-2 in our fair state and with the Trojans losing many players on defense and a few important coaches they could very well lose again. Here's a video of Sanchez's press conference in which Petey bullshits everybody by saying he's "thrilled for Mark" and his decision but then doesn't even stick around for the presser like he did for Matt Leinart, John David Booty and Carson Palmer. What the hell ever happened to Booty by the way?

A recruit for the 2010 recruiting class is visiting the Ducks this weekend. Ethan Grant, a runningback from North Broward Prep. in Florida, has been high on the Ducks for a long time. What's really cool about Grant is that he and his mother decided to fly out to Oregon on their own dime and check out the school. Here's a video of him in action. The kid has world class speed and is already listed as one of the Top 100 players in the state of Florida. It's likely that he will receive attention from Florida, Florida State and numerous other SEC schools, but from what I've been reading it seems like his heart lies in Oregon.

And to end today's blog post I found a tidbit of information that actually made me "LOL" at my computer screen. We've all seen the Terminator movies, but do you know who was actually cast to possibly play the role instead of "Awwnold"? O.J. Simpson! James Cameron thought he'd be a perfect fit for the role, but the producers feared he was "too nice" to be taken seriously as a cold-blooded killer." Damn...how wrong they were.

Recruiting Is Heating Up & Other Random Musings

First off, today's post is a longer one than normal. I feel obligated to make up for the past month where I've been a boner and have neglected the blog a bit too much. Who am I kidding, I don't have a whole lot else to do right now anyways.

Ok...down to business. I'm starting to believe that Oregon is finally turning into "Linebacker U" due to their recent success in landing kick ass talent in that department. The last 24 hours do nothing to dispel my assumption. The Ducks recently received verbal commitments from Bryson Littlejohn (YEAAAAH!) and Michael Clay. Then we throw in a little Boseko Lokombo and Oregon's last 3 commits have all been linebackers. Not to say that's a bad thing though considering they are all 4 star guys and were highly sought after by many schools. You can never have too much talent at one position...just ask USC.

Oregon's last 3 recruiting classes have garned these linebackers:

Terrance Pritchett - 4 Star - Should play next year.
Brandon Hanna - 3 Star - He may be lost in the plethora of talent at his position.
Casey Matthews - 3 Star - Already is a starter on D.
Terrell Turner - 3 Star - will play next year for sure.
Malachi Lewis - 4 Star - Has since been moved to offense.
Eddie Pleasant - 3 Star - Likely a starter next year.
Kiko Alonso -3 Star - Redshirted this season.
Josh Kaddu - 3 Star - Redshirted this season.
Dewitt Stuckey - 4 Star - He's one big dude.
Tyrell Irvin - 4 Star - Will likely see the field next year.
Michael Clay - 4 Star - will redshirt next season.
Bryson Littlejohn - 4 Star - will challenge for a starting spot.
Boseko Lokombo - 4 Star - will redshirt next season.

Oh, and we don't want to forget Spencer Paysinger who is a starting linebacker but was recruited as a wide receiver. Yeah, he was only ranked a 2 Star....just goes to show that recruiting services can be a joke with the star ratings. Here's two pictures of the guys that I think will make big contributions at the linebacker spots next season.

Littlejohn is going to be beastly. He's the third best JC Linebacker according to Rivals.com and had an offer from USC. Like I've mentioned previously, USC doesn't offer JC kids too often. If USC wanted him then that speaks volumes for me. I wouldn't be surprised if he works his way into the starting rotation, and with a last name like Littlejohn who wouldn't want him out there?

Dewitt Stuckey has some seriously large arms...and he's only a freshman. Just imagine what an offseason of weight lifting is going to do for that kid. He was Oregon's prized linebacker recruit last year and has the prototypical size and speed to be a force next year. In my opinion, watch for him to be a significant factor on defense next season.

I'll be delving into more recruiting news as it comes, but as of right now I'm not going to get into the recruiting hyperbole that's out there regarding Tajh Boyd and Bryce Brown. I could literally make blog post after blog post of rumors and statements regarding these two guys that, if interpreted one way or another, could spell MAJOR happiness for the Ducks. If Boyd commits to Oregon then I will talk in depth about Oregon's chances of landing Brown, but at this point it's all conjecture and bullshit.

So how about "Big Game Bob" losing another BCS game? Wasn't it sweet? I'm not much of an Urban Meyer fan, but watching the Sooners lose to the Gators was a perfect way to cap off the end of the college football season. Here's a pretty funny picture I found that summarizes the Sooner's BCS woes the past few years:

(Just click on it to make it bigger)

Once I saw this Sooner band member on TV the other night I knew she was going to be an Internet sensation...needless to say...It didn't take long for my theory to become correct:

This is a random way to end today's blog post, but for all of you out there that have seen the movie Office Space you will like what I have come up with. I think that Ron Zook, the coach of the Illinois Fighting Illini, looks A LOT like Jim Lundbergh from the movie. Let me illustrate my point:

Eerily similar isn't it! Ron just needs to dye his hair brown and then say things like, "Yeaaaaah, I'm going to need those TPS reports on my desk by 4 mmmmkkkkk...Thaaanks."

Oklahoma Will Get Anally Probed

I just had to call my shot before the championship game tonight.

Have you ever seen the movie "Two for the Money"? Well, consider me Brandon Lang tonight people because I have the lock of the year....except I won't charge you 5 Franklin's for my "insider knowledge." Oklahoma will go down hard and the Big 12 will be lit up like the dumpster fire that they are. Texas barely beats Ohio St. (yeah, WTF mates?), Missouri barely beats Northwestern (WTF x 2), Texas Tech gets beat by an unranked Ole' Miss team, Oklahoma St. is still recovering from the hurdles and QB bulldozings that Oregon dealt and Kansas ruined a Minnesota team that hadn't beaten an opponent with a winning record all year....whoopity friggin doo.

What does this equate to?

It basically means that Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin and the rest of the Gators are going to score at will on an Oklahoma defense that gave up 41 points to Oklahoma St. (Oklahoma score 61 to beat them). Oh, and the Sooners have the 65th ranked defense in the country...that's not so swell. Oklahoma will lay another egg on a big stage, and it's too bad they have to succumb to such a douchebag in Urban Meyer.

The other factor to consider is that Oklahoma defensive players have been talking smack this week about how Tim Tebow would be the "4th best QB in their conference"...big mistake to do that. Didn't an LSU defensive captain (*cough* Ricky Jean-Francois *cough*) talk smack before their showdown with Florida? The result of that game happened to be an absolute beat down by Florida 51-21.

Prediction: Florida - 52 / Oklahoma - 31

Oh, and if you're wondering what WTF means....What the F**k...LOL...JK

Jacquizz The Short-Legged Beaver

I found this on Ted Miller's Pac-10 Blog from ESPN...it was pretty good.

JACQUIZZ THE SHORT-LEGGED BEAVER

(To the tune of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer)

You know Barnes and Beban and Pritchard and Vince
Lou Holtz and Don James and not many since
But do you recall
The smallest Trojan-killer of all?

Jacquizz the short-legged Beaver
Couldn't stand up very tall
Whenever he got the handoff
He became a bowling ball

Cushing was getting livid
Whenever Quizzie ran around
He'd run through their legs until
The referee said, 'First down'

There must have been some magic there
In Beaver-land, I guess
Because when Quizzie's work was done
The Trojans groaned, 'BCS'

Yes, now the Beavers love him
And they shout it out with glee
Jacquizz the short-legged Beaver
Barred the Trojans from Mi-am-ee

Salem Is An Iceberg

Once again I apologize for my absence from this blog, but I do have a good excuse. On Saturday I went to a Christmas party on Croisan Mountain in Salem and I strongly stress the word "mountain" here. The trek up the mountain in a friends Land Rover was an exciting one, and on Saturday when we planned to trek back down there were numerous trees blown over so we were forced to stay another day. Unfortunately, all power was out so no internet, television or flushing of toilets. Yes, gross indeed. I have made it back to civilization today though and was pleased to find that Oregon landed an excellent replacement for Patrick Chung next season. Anthony Leon, a 4-star JUCO safety, made his commitment today. The kid had an offer from USC...enough said.

With that being said, I'm headed off to bed considering the last few nights have been a blur mixed with large amounts of beer consumption. I plan to write a lengthier post tomorrow before Christmas Eve and Jesus' birthday so check back then.
